- Auto convert SAP spool output to PDF file. As of Release 4.6D, PDF format (Adobe Acrobat data format) can be created via the SAP spooler by using the device type 'PDF1'. As a workaround, a report (RSTXPDFT4) is made available for the missing 'direct PDF printing', which can read spool requests, convert to PDF and perform a frontend download.
- The inPuncto ECM software for SAP is prepared for the processing of these electronic documents and formats. The conversion to PDF, PDF-A, TIFF etc. Is a modular component of the configurable inPuncto server for the processing of documents of the incoming mail for SAP. Via integrated OCR software also values can be identified automatically.
A PDF file on the other hand is a proprietary (BINARY) file format that belongs to the Adobe company. A PDF file is NOT an ASCII text file, there are NOT control strings used in the creation of a PDF file, so you must use something like ODS PDF in order to make a PDF output file from your SAS procedure output.
How to print from SAP to a PDF file without any third party software is explained below.
In the transaction SPAD (spool administration) set up an output device (ZPDF) as follows:
In order for this configuration to work, you need to set up a 'Print to File' printer in the Windows print manager of your Frontend PC as follows:
- 'Settings' -> 'Printer' -> 'Add Printer'
- On the window that appears, click on 'Next' button.
- Select 'Local Printer' and click on 'Next'
- Select the port 'FILE Print to File'
- Select 'Generic/Text Only' driver
- Enter 'Printer Name' eg: PDFTEST
- Share as: eg: PDFTEST
- Select 'Finish'.
Then in the output device definition in transaction SPAD, you need to set the Host Printer field to the same name as you defined your 'Print to File' printer in the Windows. i.e. In the example above, the setting would be: Host Printer (field) : PDFTEST.
Use the setting 'Print Immediately' in the field area 'Time of Printing' in the print dialog pop-up. When you do this, you should get a pop-up on your Frontend PC asking you for name and path of the PDF file. You must give the file name a '.pdf' extension.
Hi,
PDF file is generated after the output is written to the spool… In your
case, in the Print Program , for every output a new spool is written… You
have to change the printer options (ITCPP-TDNEWID) as space. Once you do
this, the outputs would be accumulated in a single spool and a single PDF
will be created. You can design a logic to control the TDNEWID parameter
based on your requirement.

Sap Output To Pdf File
Hi,
Thanks for your reply and your advise seems reasonable.
But when I run VF31 , I get a list of billing doc. Then I choose one or more doc and click “process” button, the mail will be sent to customer.
During the process , I didn’t find where to set the printer options and in sp01
I didn’t find the spool.
Could you please explain more concretely ? Thank you again.
Besides, is it possible that 10 pdf fils are created and all attached in one mail ?
after reading the response, it seems you managed to solve this on your own. Could you comment please for those going in similar direction?
Yes it will be possible to attach 10 or more PDF files in one email. instead seggregate on Customer and on date.
